Mindful Meditation is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical, mental, and emotional experiences. Practicing mindfulness helps to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. Join us to soak in the art and find a place of calm.

Countdown to 50! Town Hall Day At Foothills

We are celebrating our 50th birthday this August. We will have special events up until the big day starting with a Town Hall Day. 

Want to talk about where we have been, what we are doing, and where we are going? Foothills Art Center staff will be available all day to field questions and concerns, hear compliments, and share our strategic plan. We are opening the galleries to the community for a free day of art viewing.

Painting with Plastic wrap is a great and creative way to blend colors with watercolors.  In this class participants will learn how to paint a watercolor using plastic wrap to blend the paint on the paper.

Countdown to 50! Lecture with Laura Bruck

Art Historian Laura Bruck will discuss iconic works in the last 50 years in art history and how they represented important shifts .

Laura Bruck recently moved to Golden from Dallas, TX where she taught art history at the University of Dallas.  Laura  has held positions at The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Although her graduate school research at Northwestern University focused on medieval illuminated manuscripts, she has taught, lectured, and published on a wide variety of art historical topics ranging from 13th century illuminated Bibles to the paintings of Vincent van Gogh.  Laura holds a B.A. in art history from American University and M.A. in art history from Northwestern University.

Cloudscapes with Kathy Beekman

Clouds have been an object of fascination throughout history and Da Vinci spent hours studying them. This class will explore the basic forms of clouds and their implications for color in the landscape. Fine tune your powers of observation in this very focused and exploratory workshop. Instructor Kathy Beekman receives rave reviews from her students. She creates a comfortable learning environment where class participants excel in the world of soft pastel. Participants do not need prior pastel painting experience.
