Oil Painting: Secrets for Glowing Colors!

If you love rich radiant colors, you’ll enjoy learning to create bright, loose colorful oil paintings by first “blocking in” with a colorful transparent underpainting and then adding opaque colors in the next layer.

In this exciting class you’ll learn the “secrets” of one of the most popular “daily painting” methods as seen online. The overall focus is on how to create vivid interesting colors by layering in oils, but there will also be helpful tips for improving your color, value, design, edges and brushwork. Students will have the opportunity to work together “step by step” on the same painting (reference provided) as well as paint from their own references. This unique “wet in wet” oil painting approach works particularly well if you enjoy painting flowers, animals, and landscapes. This workshop is best for artists with some painting experience.

Golden Glass Orbs Hunt

The Golden Glass Orb Hunt is a new event in Golden this year! During the month of September, we will place an orb somewhere in the city each day for thirty days, one for each day of the month. Three local artisans handcrafted these one-of-a-kind glass orbs for Golden visitors to find and keep.

Each orb is marked with a special tag and instructions for treasure finders to register their orb at the Foothills Art Center where they will receive a certificate of authenticity. Foothills Art Center is open Mondays – Saturdays: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Sundays: 12:00 – 5:00 PM. Once you register your orb, you will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a $200 gift card to a Golden business of your choosing (odds are 1/30).

Set Your Horizons

With a creative attitude towards landscape painting, instructor Kathy Beekman will lead you through this innovative and light hearted class.  This class is aimed at helping you discover the importance of properly placed horizon lines.  You will learn what a low and high horizon line accomplishes and where best to place your horizons if you want to create a feeling of great height, expanse of open space or the feeling of looking outward and upward, down upon your subject or deep into the far distance.  If you are looking for more oomph and more arresting and unexpected compositional qualities in your work then this is the workshop for you.  Instructor Kathy Beekman receives rave reviews from her students.  She creates a comfortable learning environment where class participants excel in the world of soft pastel. Participants do not need prior pastel experience.
