Paint Pouring Class with Pam Fortner

Pam2.jpg

During this 4-session class, we will cover many aspects of the poured acrylic painting technique.  We will discuss paint recipes, pouring mediums and additives.  We will also learn about different methods of pouring paint and explore the results of each method.  Students will have the opportunity to try each technique and will develop their own individual style. This is a fun, messy class, so students should be prepared to get their hands dirty! All materials will be supplied for the first class.

Charles E. Burchfield, Resounding Roar Member Preview

Join us Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 6:00 pm for the Member Preview of Charles E. Burchfield, Resounding Roar.

The sounds of nature, industry and humanity would inspire Burchfield throughout his career. Early works depict the sound of crickets as they chirp away in the bushes around his childhood home. The resounding roar of a passing train or the delicate call of a bobolink could be imputes for a series of works lasting decades. Later works are inspired by his favorite composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Jean Sibelius. Charles E. Burchfield: A Resounding Roar presents the artist's love and appreciation of different sounds and the works he made in response to them. Click here to learn more about the artist.

Colorado School of Mines IDEAS reception

First-year CSM Thorson honors students present their final design projects. The year-long class, “Innovation and Discovery in Engineering, Art, and Science (IDEAS) immerses students in a multifaceted investigation of engineering and science, design, ethics, and the arts. The readings, assignments, and activities highlight the seamless boundaries between these disciplines and the importance of making value-informed technical decisions. Students examine place, identity, citizenship, and community in both local and global contexts as they learn what it means to be an engaged and mindful citizen and professional. IDEAS poses ethical problems and hands-on design challenges from a multitude of lenses, incorporates experiential learning, team-based projects, applies ethical reasoning in support of an engineering design solution, and utilizes seminar discussions to encourage students to think both critically and creatively.
