Introduction to Portrait Drawing

Using pencil and charcoal you will practice the techniques for successful portraits. The course will include demonstrations and examples in use of various drawing techniques. Individual assistance will help you develop and refine your skills. This is a great class to begin drawing the human face or for painters and figure drawing students who would like to improve in this area. Introduction to Polymer Clay:  Faux Turquoise

*Materials Fee:  $10 Have you always admired turquoise items but didn't want to pay the price?  In this class students will learn an easy way to make custom pieces in Faux Turquoise using polymer clay. This is a material that can be baked ("cured") in your home oven. Students will focus on beads that you can later make into jewelry or even cover the top of a small box. Materials provided with fee.

Are you looking for a fun and encouraging atmosphere to delve into painting?  Students of all levels and mediums are invited to join Steve in this exciting investigation of painting.  Steve’s classes are always infused with positivity and camaraderie.  His teaching approach addresses the basics as well as important information for professional artists.  Students will receive individual attention as well as the support of fellow students.

Introduction to Watercolor

If you have ever wanted to learn to paint in watercolor here’s an opportunity to learn the basics from a master watercolorist.  In this three day workshop, students will learn basic watercolor techniques including color mixing from a limited palette, as well as how to select materials.  Instruction will include how to select a subject, layout of a composition as well as how to create the painting.  www.youngmannwatercolors.com

Set your Horizons

With a creative attitude towards landscape painting, instructor Kathy Beekman will lead you through this innovative and light hearted class.  Aiming at helping you discover the importance of properly placed horizon lines, students will learn what a low and high horizon line accomplishes and where best to place your horizons. If you are looking for more arresting and unexpected compositional qualities in your work then this is the class for you.  This class is open to artists working in pastel, watercolor, acrylic, pen, and pencil. 

Pine Needle Basketry

The ancient art of pine needle basketry uses a coiling and stitching technique that is surprisingly easy to learn.  This one day workshop includes how to gather/prep pine needles, coiling, shaping, types of stitches, and finishing.  You will complete a pine needle basket by the end of class that will be a fragrant enhancement to your home.

Floating Coils Gourd Basketry

Using a gourd as a base, learn beginning and advanced pine needle coiling techniques with colorful waxed linen.  Floating coils do not connect to a previous coil and allow for the imagination to run wild in creating these free forms. 

PULLING OFF GREAT ABSTRACTS!

In this 4 – day workshop with Louise Cadillac you’ll explore some new approaches for producing the most exciting abstract paintings you’ve ever accomplished!  By applying design principles and simple techniques with a different mind set, you will look at painting in a whole new way - simple, abstract and quite exciting!  For intermediate and advanced students.  Some experience with acrylic paint and collage required.

Watercolor on Site

8 am – 12 noon
Fee $145 / FAC Member:  $130.50
Experience the challenge of painting on location and completing a painting from start to finish in less than three hours while learning from a master watercolorist.  Instruction will include selecting a location, creating an interesting composition and how an under glazing on the painting surface can create unity to the composition.  Students will learn techniques in traveling light, limiting supplies needed for on location painting and how to build a light weight painting board.  Each painting session will be at a different location in the Front Range and Golden Area, and include individual instruction, student painting time and a group critique at the end of the session by the instructor. www.youngmannwatercolors.com
