Throughout this week in camp, kids will learn about self-portraits and how they show an image of an artist, made by the artist. When each kid creates a self-portrait, they will understand how that a self-portrait is showing people what you look like and something about themselves, too. Students will think about themselves: What they enjoy, where they like to be, what their favorite colors are, and anything else they might want to depict about themselves. Students will be shown images of various self-portraits created throughout history and today, such as those by Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, Mary Cassatt, Frida Kahlo, and Chuck Close. Together, we will discuss the elements in the portraits and how it is the artists decision  how their portrait will appear. With the use of oil pastels, crayons, and Bristol board students will have created their own self-portrait by the end of the week! Sign up now!
