During this class, each student will create a self-portrait sketch including a head, neck, body, arms, legs and feet. These pieces will then be cut out of clay slabs. Once the pieces are fired, the body parts will be colored and assembled using wire. These clay self-portraits can then be hung at home as a wall piece. Students will also explore using silkscreens and Designer Liner "glaze pens" to add images to the flat surface of a mug and plate that they make. These will be glazed so that they are food-safe, microwaveable, and dishwasher-safe.

Or maybe the slightest touch will keep it moving for a while. We'll be using wires and strings and lots of other dancing things to make these fun eye-catching works of art that are on the cusp of being toys!

Week 5
7/8/19 - 7/12/19

Artist A Day - SOLD OUT

Instructor: Roy Annenberg

During this exciting week of Art Camp, kids will get to be a different artist for each day!  They will learn about the life of the artist and how this affected the way their artwork looks. The geometric line artwork of Piet Mondrian will inspire our giant-sized collages using the primary colors and more! Classical music and the fantastic abstract paintings of Wassily Kandinsky will be the inspiration for fun free flowing paintings. The exaggerated statues of Alberto Giacometti will help us create our own colorful statues out of plaster and other sculpture materials. Sandy Skoglund’s life size installations will capture our minds as we build a life-size artwork that our whole group can walk through and experience!  Lastly, the non-objective miniature sculptures of Richard Tuttle will help us create our own 3-D sculptures out of a variety of found objects.  Collage, Paint, Draw, and Sculpt your way through a week of fun!

Week 6
7/15/19 - 7/19/19

Native American Inspired Clay Creations - SOLD OUT

Students will explore making sculptural work by creating clay ocarinas inspired by the Mayans. After looking at images of masks from various Native American cultures, students will create a clay mask of their own design.
